It almost looks like it has chambers inside. Maybe something ate it's way out? I have several of them attached to my concrete block wall. It's kind of interesting, but it also kind of gives me the creeps!
I told you this was a strange place!

That is so weird looking. Is there a way to take one to a garden nursery? They might have an idea. If you do find out, let us know.
It looks like some kind of insect cacoon
All I can say, as an amateur entomologist, is we don't have anything like it in the UK! It looks like some sort of insect egg container (rather like a honeycomb) which would contain an egg in each chamber. The big hole is quite possibly made by something pecking the contents out rather than an exit hole. With all those chambers one would normally expect lots of little exit holes. I'd love to know if you solve it.
Sorry I have no knowledge of the creepy crawlies. Maybe there is a picture on some bug site out there to help you?
I don't know, but I find the same thing sometimes on our porch, usually hidden under a rail.
Oh I know what that is! It's one of the signs of the apocalypse. You should run. Run fast, run far. And don't even talk to me about the Jerusalem Crickets we have, because at least they have discernible limbs and heads. Although yes, they are of the devil.
