While packing up my mother's house, I managed to finally get my hands on something that I have wanted my whole life! You'd think it would be something big & beautiful, and I guess to me it is.
This belonged to my mother's mother, who was a seamstress and milliner.
It sat in my mother's cedar chest my whole life. I have secretly, and not so secretly, coveted this can for as long as I can remember. I call dibs on it! Mine! Mine! Mine!
Why, you ask? It's just an old can. It is, and I would love it even if it didn't hold all of these old BUTTONS!!!!
I spent hours sifting through all of the old buttons in that can as a kid! Sorting by shape, by size, by color, and starting over again! I could spend just as much time doing that very thing today. Thanks, Mom!

Fabulous buttons and such a lovely memory.
jeeze how great is that, I saw once a landscape done in old buttoms, like putting together a jigsaw puzzle. great connection to your mother.

Wow, how great. I love old buttons - you just don't see this quality anymore. Thanks for sharing your treasure through pics. :) M
That is so cool!
I have my grandmother's old box of costume jewelry, mostly broken and chipped peices now, but boy, did I have fun with it when I was little. My mom thought I was crazy to ask for that old junk. She was going to toss it, but I'm so glad she didn't!
Just love the can, how very cool and the buttons are a bonus.
That is a truly spectacular can full of great buttons. I am so glad you finally got it. Thanks for sharing the wonderful pictures.
Great build-up. The can and the buttons are both treasures.
Oh Lisa...yay for you :) I totally feel that excitement. I, too, was a little girl in love with the button jar, the buttons, the time spent with my mom or my gram sorting through it. Thank you for those memories.
I admire someone that treasures family memories. The old button can is classic!
A fabulous old can full of BUTTONS! I love it!
Ohhh I love button tins.
Oh, I totally understand - I would want the can too.
The buttons are the icing on the cake.
What a treasure! I'm glad your wish was granted. The can is very cool and the buttons will be so fun to go through! Enjoy.
What a great treasure trove. A real family heirloom.
Wow, that is really cool--the can and the buttons.
Old tins are my heart! I can never wait to look inside. They are all over my house. Now, where have those buttons been and who designed them? Wouldn't it be nice to have pictures of the garments, the occasions and connected personal thoughts? Oh, the work involved! A beautiful post and congratulations on all of your very personal treasures. Thanks for giving us a peek.
My license plate should say that I break for antiques, aged and weathered, because this past weeks theme is so me!
