Fourth of July

What are you up to this holiday weekend? We are working in the yard this morning, since all of the rain we've gotten has softened the normally brick-hard soil. I love going outside after a monsoon rain and pulling weeds. I know it sounds weird, but it's very satisfying!

In the afternoon we're going to the neighbor's house. They've planned a block party to meet everyone in the neighborhood. They are quite the social butterflies! We've lived in this house for 4 years and still don't know everyone.

This morning I'm also making carrot raisin salad to take over and Hubby is going to make a strawberry-rhubarb pie. We're not big pie eaters, so this way we get to eat a piece without being obligated to eat the whole thing!

I hope that all of us in this country take a few moments to consider what this holiday really stands for, the people who gave their lives to protect it, and what we, as individuals, are willing to do to make sure that the Declaration of Independence stands strong.

I would love to go to a block party. We used to have them all the time when I was growing up. Wonderful post and photo. Hope you enjoy your 4th!!

Hope the party was a blast - we used to do that when we lived in a cul-de-sac. Those were great times. Hope you and your husband also had a very good Fourth weekend, and I don't think it's strange at all to want to pull weeds. It is the best stress-reliever around! :) M

Happy Independence Day!

I was reading your comment on your birdy photo over at the group photo blog, and I have to say - you have got the best sense of humor.

As for the pie - strawberry rhubarb is my absolute favorite...mmmm, and key lime too.
But, not together.

I agree, gardening is so great because of the zen quality: Pulling weeds and dead heading my petunia is so relaxing!
Yes, liberty and justice for all is my mantra! I have been down at the sea, wishing with the fishes this pat weekend. Hope you had a lovely time too.

Hi,
Sorry for the late comment, I hope you had a wonderful block party. I also really love the picture of your the flag. I spent my holiday weekend visiting my hubby at the hospital not fun but even if he is not aware I was there it made me feel better.
Take care
